Exhibiting and Collecting Chinese Postal History
Specializing in Cities
Sam will share with you his journey from stamp collector to exhibitor. In the 1990s when Sam was asked to exhibit to qualify as a philatelic judge in Canada, there were very few reference to Chinese postal history. Sam took on the task by researching and collecting data for his own census on the material that he was collecting. He decided that the ideal boundary to collect and research on should be according to cities. Hence, the start of his first exhibit, Chefoo, 1880-1911. On receiving his first gold medal in 1997, he then went on to accumulate material for his other exhibits.
Another approach that Sam took was to collect/exhibit about wars and conflicts. But this display will only show his 3 cities exhibits. Besides Chefoo, he will also show Wei Hai Wei, 1895-1949 and Hankow 1891-1919.

Sam currently has received 150 medals in national and international open competition for his exhibits. This included 49 large golds and 53 gold medals. Nine of his exhibits had won a total of 18 APS Awards for Research, which showed that his research had put him on the right path. Sam is also past president of RPSC.
