The Crawford Medal Shortlist Announcement 2026

The Royal Philatelic Society London received more than twenty nominations for the Crawford Medal for books published during the years 2024 and 2025. The Society is pleased to announce the short list of six from which the Crawford Medal Committee will select the 2026 winner. The winner will be announced at the end of the Crawford Festival on 17 June 2026.
The shortlisted books are:
- Italia e Iberia: la posta fra gli stati delle due penisole 1814 – 1876= Italy and Iberia: the mail between the states of the two peninsulas by Lorenzo Carra.
- The Mulready caricature : the philatelic caricatures of the envelope and letter sheet design of William Mulready RA : volume 1 publishers A – H; volume 2 publishers I – Z by Richard Hobbs & Robin Cassell.
- New York City Foreign Mail 1845 – 1878 (2 Volumes) by N.M Kirke.
- The handbook of stamp production: histories, dummy stamps, collectables, articles, biographies by Glenn Morgan.
- Dominica: philately to 1967 by Simon Richards.
- Northeast China local overprints by Communists 1945-1949 by Roman Scheibert.
The Crawford Medal is a silver-gilt medal awarded for the most valuable and original contribution to the study and knowledge of philately published in book form during the relevant period. This Medal is open to world-wide competition and has been awarded by the Society on over 90 occasions since the first award in 1920.

Although nominations have closed for this year, if you have written, published or read a book that could be a contender for next year’s medal (for books published in 2025 or 2026) then you can nominate it by emailing daviesn@rpsl.org.uk and ensuring that a non-returnable copy of the book is sent to 15 Abchurch Lane, London EC4N 7BW by 31 January 2027.
